As a service to the Members I feel that I need to provide some clarification to clear up a few 'misunderstandings'!
As we know, Reimbursement is sometimes confused with Penuniary Interest.
Reimbursement means to pay somebody back money spent for an official or approved reason or taken as a loan, or give somebody money as compensation for loss or damage. For example a club or organisation reimburses someone to repay money spent on direct costs associated with a project such as (A3) paper for photocopying machines.
The Former Bears Perth Editor in Chief and Chief Photographer did not recieve any money or any payment in kind in exchange for work done for the club. Further, Bears Perth Inc did not provide reimbursement for any item purchased as part of the production of promotional materials. Does this mean that all the paper handed out at the Bears tent at Pride 2006 Fairday was paid for out of the pocket of the Editor in Chief and Chief Photographer?
Pecuniary Interest is when someone makes money as a 'benefit' from an involvement with a club or organisation. It is when someone gets money directly as a result of fulfilling a service to the community. Say for example someone collects cans and bottles for a club because they know they will be able to get money from recyling!
In Media terms, the Press Council's principles failure to Disclose Interest can result in significant penalties and require negotiated settlements.
Therefore, the problem for our fictionary imaginative can collecter is, did he know that he would be able to collect money from recycling before he volunteered to undertake garbage collection? Did he inform the club that as a result of collecting the cans he would get tax free cash directly into his own pocket? What exactly are the interests attached to the can money, when did it begin and how much money could the club have had in 'general revenue for members' if it had gone to the club?
Would it have been enough to reimbuse the costs associated with the Newsletter?
