The
Order of Perpetual Indulgence of the Great Southern Land is a GLBTIQ organisation.
Our aim is to promote the interests of the GLBTIQ Community in Australia.
We stand as a reminder to all GLBTIQ people that being gay is not
a Sin and that GLBTIQ People are ready to embrace full rights of citizenship!
We encourage GLBTIQ people to throw away the shackles of guilt
that are placed upon us by those that seek to undermine our human right
to live meaningful lives free from oppression and homophobia. The OPI GSL
believe that every GLBTIQ person has the right to feel good about themselves
and to experience Universal Joy for themselves.
The
OPI GSL affirm the right of GLBTIQ people to marry and we call for government's
everywhere to reform repressive backward looking laws that prevent the basic
human right of marriage being extended to all People. As an organisation
we are concerned with all issues that effect the GLBTIQ Community. The
OPI GSL ring the Bell of Tolliday to remind our members of the Gathered
Faithful that the AIDS CRISIS is not over. Our Bell is ringing
to bring about substantial change to the culture of AIDS organisations in
Australia and calls for less money to be spent on staff and more on direct
health promotion campaigns to prevent new transmissions of HIV along with
more resources for support services to ensure that HIV positive people are
able to live meaningful, empowered lives.
We
hope that people receiving the Bell do so with some spirit of respect for
those effected by HIV. We own the fact that the namesake of the BOT is an
otherwise insignificant heterosexual woman whose role is to run an AIDS
Council's highly successful heterosexual women's HIV support program. We
also own the fact that in WA we are asking why the AIDS orgs in WA so actively
support the Roman Catholic's Church's Catholic Living Centre, which operates
as a charity complete with Chapel but yet refuse to provide a gay men's
HIV support service program, similar to the highly successful heterosexual
women's program, esp given that 80% of HIV+ people are gay males?
These are the Aims
and Objectives of the OPI!
Expiation of stigmatic guilt (that guilt we direct at ourselves or the guilt we apply to others.
Promulgation of Universal Joy, especially among GLBTIQ people.
To be a GLBTIQ Liberation Organisation.
To help make every GLBTIQ person feel good about themselves.
To provide a public forum to for like minded gay people and gay sympathetic people to express their views and interests.
To be concerned with the physical and social environment of all in the GLBTIQ community.
To be concerned with preserving and promoting the desirable historical, social and cultural features of the GLBTIQ community.
To review those activities and policies of public, statutory and private organisations which affect the GLBTIQ community.
To support and co-operate with other organizations whose aims and objectives are compatible with those of the Order.
To represent the views and interests of the members of the Order before public, statutory and private organisations on matters which affect the Order.
To raise funds for GLBTIQ charities and in particular those relating to HIV/AIDS.
To carry out safer sex education and raise awareness about the needs of HIV+ people within the GLBTIQ Community.
To do any other lawful acts as may be incidental or conducive to the the attainment of these objects and aims of the Order.
